The safety and wellbeing of every child in our care comes before anything else at Christ Promise Children's Home. This page sets out how we work to keep children safe.
Every child has the right to grow up free from harm, neglect and abuse. This principle guides every decision we make, from who is allowed contact with a child to how our daily routines are run.
Every member of staff and every volunteer is background-checked, reference-checked and interviewed before they are permitted to work with a child. All complete safeguarding training on induction and again every year.
Staff and volunteers follow a written code of conduct covering appropriate contact with children, supervision ratios, use of photography, and safe use of the internet and social media. No adult is left alone with a child outside of agreed, supervised arrangements.
Every child is told, in language they understand, who they can speak to if something feels wrong, and that they will be believed and taken seriously.
Any concern about a child's welfare, or about the conduct of a member of staff or volunteer, is recorded, assessed and escalated without delay, and referred to the relevant local authority where necessary. If you have a concern, please contact us directly through our Contact page and mark it as a safeguarding matter.
Staff and volunteers are encouraged to report any safeguarding concern, including about a colleague, without fear of blame. Concerns raised in good faith are always taken seriously.
This policy is reviewed at least once a year, and sooner if guidance or legislation changes.
